Tyler Fish Camp
Located along the northernmost stretch of the California coastline near Smith River, Tyler Fish Camp is a multigenerational family property set within a secluded and rugged landscape defined by old-growth redwood forests, pristine rivers, and protected state beaches. Long valued as a destination for anglers and outdoor enthusiasts, the site carries both a strong natural identity and deep personal significance for the family.
The project reimagines an aging Highway 1 motel as a modern vacation rental complex and family retreat, bringing new life and renewed presence to the property and reviving a family legacy. The design is focused on revitalization through simplicity, warmth, and a strong curb appeal—transforming an aging roadside property into a destination that feels both contemporary and responsive to the site and programmatic needs of the traveler and the family. Framed by old-growth redwoods on one side and a California state beach on the other, the project is conceived as an immersive coastal retreat where landscape, memory, and hospitality converge.
